These amazing fabrics start with canvas made from certified organic cotton, grown in Texas and milled in South Carolina. The designs are hand-printed by skilled artisans in New England. The Organic Trade Association’s Fiber Processing Standards are followed in all stages of production, with water-based, heavy-metal-free pigments used in printing and no chemical agents ever added. The colors are set the old-fashioned way, using heat and pressure; this makes the fabrics machine-washable (though machine drying isn’t recommended as it crinkles the design). Eco-friendly dry cleaning is also recommended. You pay a bit more for fabrics like these, but you get so much more as well – not only are the designs unique and compelling, but you also have the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the fabric is created in a way that harms neither people nor planet.
